    Accommodations

  • Cottages - Sheltered by tranquil woodlands, two-bedroom, fully equipped family cottages are available.  Cottages are open year - round with a maximum of five persons.  Cottages are rented Monday to Monday.
     
  • Dining - The Rhododendron Restaurant offers fine dining with an impeccable view. Featured are a main dining room and an adjacent banquet room used for meetings. The Restaurant is open April 1 - December 20. Hours of operation are 7:00 A.M. - 9:00 P.M.
     
  • Lodge - The Breaks Motor Loge was built on the rim of the canyon.  Thirty-four rooms have balconies with spectacular views.  An additional forty-eight units are in close proximity to the restaurant and conference center. The Lodge is open April 1 - December 20.

    Camping & RV - A fully developed 122-site campground, with tent camping to full-hookups, is available.
    The campground is open from April 1 - October 31.

    Facilities

  • Amphitheater - Park interpretive programs, live theater presentations, and several gospel and bluegrass performances are performed during spring, summer, and fall.
     
  • Convention Center - Attached to the Rhododendron Restaurant is the new Rhododendron Lodge Conference Center, which opened in 1997. The Center has 6,000 sq. feet of meeting space and has a capacity of 525 persons seated theater sytle and 250 persons, banquet style. The Convention Center is open April 1 - December 20
     
  • Gift Shop - A large variety of superior gifts are available at the Gift Shop, located in the restaurant complex. The Gift Shop is open April 1 - December 21.
     
  • Visitor’s Center - The visitor’s center showcases exhibits of the area’s natural and historical features.
    as well as geological and coal mining displays.  The Visitor’s Center is open April 1 - December 21.  Hours of operation are 9:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M.

    Fishing, Boating & Swimming

  • Boat Dock - Pedal boats are available for rent by the hour or half-hour. These boats may be used for pleasure, riding and exercise, as well as bass and blue gill fishing. The boat dock is open from April 1 - October 31.  Hours of operation are 10 A.M. - 6 P.M. Monday - Friday and 10 A.M. - 8 P.M. Saturday - Sunday.
     
  • Fishing - The park embraces 12-acre Laurel Lake, which is stocked with bass and bluegill.  Only electric motorboats are allowed.
     
  • Pool - A public, Olympic size swimming pool, along with a children’s pool, gives hours of fun and enjoyment. A pool concession stand is available for refreshments. Open from Memorial Day through Labor
    Day.
    Hours of operation are 10 A.M. - 6 P.M. Monday - Friday and 10 A.M. - 8 P.M. Saturday and Sunday.

     
  • White Water Rafting - In recent years rafting, kayaking, and canoeing on the Russell Fork River has become a major sport, drawing white water enthusiasts from many parts of the world.  Rafting depends upon releases from the John W. Flannagan Reservoir.  From the dam, the first two miles are Class II rapids which progress downstream reaching Class V+ rapids. Some of the most challenging rapids in the eastern United States can be found while traveling through the Breaks Park with names such as 20 Stitches, Broken Nose and Triple Drop.

    Other Recreation

  • Hiking & Mountain Biking Trails - There are approximately twelve miles of walking and hiking trails. They range from easy to difficult. The network of walking and hiking trails allows visitors to access the depths of the Breaks Canyon or scenic paths that parallel Overlook Drive.  A nature drive has also been established that permits disabled individuals to view the scenery from the comfort of their vehicles.  Six scenic overlooks with guard rails and observation decks aid in viewing the spectacular scenery.  There are about two miles of mountain biking trails.
     
  • Horseback Riding Stable - The park has well maintained riding trails and also offers pony rides. Open April 1 - December 21. Weekends only after Labor Day. Hours of operation are 10 A.M. - 6 P.M.
     
  • Picnicking - Six picnic shelters are used heavily for family reunions and several other groups throughout the season. Picnic shelters can be reserved through rental.  The shelters are open year-round.  Please contact us for more rental information.
